Welcome to the Labyrinth – Tofte Manor 2021

Background

New for 2021, Tofte Manor is an enchanted, open-air venue and concept developed by event brand turned record label Labyrinth. Taking place approximately 8 miles from Bedford. Tofte Manor combines the natural beauty of the UK countryside with an eclectic and spiritual atmosphere of the 17th-century manor and grounds. Making it the perfect backdrop for any music enthusiast. Nestled in the heart of Bedfordshire, Labyrinth hosted two weekends, one in August and one in September. Comprising of two stages – the Labyrinth stage, which sits next to the walkable Labyrinth, and the Tom Dixon stage, designed by industrial designer Tom Dixon, which combines industrial art and music as one. The Fair provided event production and health and safety services.

Challenge

In July 2021, the UK Government gave the green light for festivals. With the season condensed into three months and the UK leaving the European Union, supply chains were in overdrive, putting increased strain on gaining infrastructure and staff for both events. For example, security deployment was split across two companies due to staffing shortages on the first weekend. Additionally, the main event space sits at the top of a hill – only accessible from the foot of the mountain. Subsequently, this became a challenge during the load in and out of artic lorries negotiating wet weather, small turning space and rural country roads.

“Hats off to everyone involved for another storming year on the Carreglwyd Estate and an anniversary edition to remember. Here’s to the next 10!” – Ransom Note

”Gottwood celebrated its ten-year anniversary in 2019. That’s a milestone many great festivals fail to reach. In many ways, its longevity feels related to its humble approach. As highlighted in this year’s festival booklet, the Welsh event started as “a party for our closest friends”. We never once thought it would evolve into what it is now.” – Resident Advisor

“…people from within the tent peering outside, to be surprised by an unexpected firework display coming from The Lawn….It was heaving, as people gathered to enjoy this immersive visual spectacle. This was such an amazing way to end the festival… and what a high this was.” – Data Transmission
