Since its inception over 30 years ago, anyone familiar with London’s live music scene will undoubtedly acknowledge the impact of Jazz Café on the city. The venue is situated in the beating epicentre of Camden and has become a staple for musical talent during its tenure. Jazz Café centres itself around music from all spectrums and corners of the world, which forms the fabric of Jazz Café.
Some 30 years later, and not shying away from the rich and diverse roots of the Camden mainstay, a bold and cross-disciplinary line-up was curated as we welcomed the first edition of the Jazz Café Festival to Burgess Park, South London. A kaleidoscope of artists were handpicked to play, from the likes of the nostalgic collective Buena Vista All Stars, playing on the main stage, The Parkway. Tucked away in the corner of the site sits the most intimate venue, The Dome. Playing here, Jordss pulled together dancehall, house and R&B whilst over in the furthest corner, Giles Peterson embarked on his mammoth three-hour set. The opulent lineup continues with Nils Frahm, Earl Sweatshirt, Alchemist and ELIZA, to name a few.
New trees: Burgess Park had recently undergone new tree planting, which demanded careful planning and consideration. The Fair had to strictly monitor vehicle access and ensure infrastructure was placed without damaging the park’s natural environment.
“Jazz Cafe Festival 2024: Camden’s iconic venue ends summer on a high note with global beats.” – Why Now
“The Jazz Cafe Festival is a great addition to the London festival scene” – City AM
“Over the last couple of years, I’ve lost faith in day festivals, seeming like corporate events to sell you things with little vibe, curation or atmosphere. This event totally resorted my faith. For the first time in ages, I can’t wait for next year. Sound was excellent, loos well taken care of. Thank you, highlight of my year.” – Instagram user
Over the past 10 years, The Fair have grown synonymous with festival production for independent promoters – it seems fitting that 2024 marked the return of Labyrinth Open Air!
Labyrinth have been Busy Earnin’ the reputation of London’s most prolific promoter: selling out London institutions such as FOLD (Dixon in FOLD, wow) and Roundhouse (numerous times) so far this year. Whether it’s Turkish delight Carlita dishing it out in a TFL station or Partyboi69 slinging his ghettotech in the cavernous HERE at Outernet – Labyrinth have been a key driver in bringing global names to the capital for 5 years now… but what about further afield?
Following a fallow year in 2023, Labyrinth once again engaged The Fair (and sister agency OPS) to deliver a standout show in leafy Bedfordshire…oh, and did we mention it takes place in a 17th-century manor?
Let’s Go Back to 2022, when the We Group team provided full event production for a 1-day show at Tofte Manor; the Labyrinth team teamed up with Lost In A Moment to host the likes of Âme x Dixon, Avalon Emerson, DJ Holographic, Elkka, Gerd Janson, HAAi and more… Accelerate to 2024, the Labyrinth team wanted to go bigger: 3 days, new stages, eclectic programming and a total redesign of site!
Across two sunny July weekends (it’s a shame about the build and break weather…) – Labyrinth Open Air was a euphony of electronic sounds. Day 1 brought guests from as far afield as Chile (!!) to experience Adriatique’s signature sounds (sonic support coming from Âme b2b Jimi Jules, a UK double-act debut) and BLOND:ISH (fresh from a landmark Coachella set). Day 2 was programmed for local tastes, with Fatboy Slim being backed up by BBC legend Sarah Story. Finally, Good Times the following weekend were brought by UK tastemakers Jungle who brought The Heat: curating an eclectic line up
Enabling over 100 sponsors to offer a range of services on site is no easy feat, and no time on-site is without its challenges. The team, however, overcame these in a variety of ways, as mentioned below…
