Eastern Electrics & Maiden Voyage 2021

Background

Eastern Electrics (EE) is a longstanding London-based electronic music brand. Established in 2010, EE held its first one-day festival in the Greenwich Peninsular. It has since transformed Knebworth House, Hatfield House, Morden Park and, more recently, Lee Valley Showground into music utopias. In 2021, EE relocated to Lee Valley Showground for its capabilities of growing in its capacity. In 2019, the popular live music venue Jazz Café curated Maiden Voyage, which started at Bromley-by-Bow. Proving highly successful amongst music enthusiasts, the 2021 edition of MV shared production and site of EE to meet increased consumer demand, and it did not disappoint.

Challenge

This was the first year the events were held at Lee Valley – which always brings challenges. For example, the site is covered directly through the middle by overhead pylons and electricity lines (aptly named for EE!). As a result, work using the plant whilst building the main stage had to be monitored to comply with the guidance set by HSE. Furthermore, the site is surrounded by canals and lakes, requiring extra planning and safety precautions.
