Oktoberfest 2022
Background
Oktoberfest Southampton is the South Coat’s biggest Oktoberfest celebration, taking place every year in Guildhall Square. Now in it’s 5th year, The Fair returned to assist The Event Cartel with Production Management and Health & Safety services.
Across the whole event, spanning over 3 sessions, Oktoberfest welcomed 4,500 punters into a Munich Beer Hall extravaganza. Steins and bratwurst were served in the thousands and guests were encouraged to dress up in traditional lederhosens and Dirndl dresses. Entertainment came in the form of an Oompah Band, who played Bavarian renditions of modern songs.
Challenge
- Guildhall Square is not the easiest of places to work in. Due to its location in the city, it attracts a high amount of footfall which can sometimes be challenging during the build and derig.
- There are also big, fixed, concrete benches in Guidhall Square which make manoeuvring certain infrastructure very difficult once the marquee is built. This meant that the VIP loo and VIP bar trailers; portaloos; and generators had to be in place before the marquee, all on the first morning of the build.
- In between the 2 live sessions on the second day, there was a tight 1-hour time frame to reset all of the benches in the beer hall; clean away all empty cups; quickly jet wash the floor; and service and empty the VIP loo trailer and portaloos. This proved particularly difficult as we had to get the servicing vehicle in place before punters left.
