For the second year running, On the Mount returned to Wasing, a rural, idyllic estate set in Berkshire, England. Across five days, the impressive stage nestled in amongst the greenery welcomed Crowded House, Paolo Nutini, Nick Mulvey, Jungle and Underworld.
London-based promoter Senbla appointed festival production agency The Fair to produce the series and our sister company, We Are OPS, to fulfil all health and safety needs before and during the event. It was the first year the We Group were involved with the project, and all-in-all, it was a great success.
Wasing Estate, with its close connection to nature, offers concert goers a truly unique experience in the heart of nature. The woodland amphitheatre lends itself perfectly to outdoor concert shows and has a capacity of 6,000 concert goers. The Fair’s production team worked closely with the estate team throughout, ensuring the event’s presence at the venue aligned with their ethos.
One of the challenges the event production team faced onsite was the continuous changeover of technical aspects. Each of the five headliners performed with their full touring package consisting of a range of audio, lighting and rigging needs. This required a smooth transition before and after each event from the technical production staff and crew onsite.
That meant careful scheduling, having adequate crew levels onsite for very early and very late call times was vita. The site team also had to ensure the physical space was there, to allow multiple arctics and tour buses at any given point.
Additionally, with it being a new site for the festival production team, there was a lot of work going into finding a balance between site/operational needs and protecting the existing aesthetic of the space. Even though Wasing Estate is far from new to events (the well-known Medicine Festival takes place on the estate in August each year), the amphitheatre space had not seen 6,000 attendees before. That meant The Fair and Wasing estate reviewed the site plan carefully together, to ensure the layout created a safe space for attendees, whilst also displaying and celebrating the uniqueness of the location.
Producing ‘On the Mount at Wasing’ in June was hands down one of my favourite shows of this summer! All-round we had a fantastic team onsite, the vibes were just incredible from day one, and it didn’t hurt being in such a beautiful location. The headliners all brought their own unique ‘chef’s kiss’ moment to the natural amphitheatre, where thousands of people danced the night away.
