Oktoberfest Southampton 2023

Background

Oktoberfest Southampton is the biggest Bavarian celebration on the South Coast.

With three sessions over two days, The Guildhall Square transforms into a Beer Hall extravaganza. Over 5,000 party-goers dressed up in traditional lederhosens and Dirndl dresses for a weekend of live Oompah music, dancing, beers and bratwurst.

The Fair has been working with The Event Cartel since 2017. This year, for the sixth edition of the event, our team returned to provide Production Management and Health & Safety services.

Challenge

  • Guildhall Square poses a unique challenge regarding access: vehicle movement was restricted due to the one-way system and sharing space with another venue, as well as the concrete benches spread throughout the square. Scheduling was therefore of key importance.

  • On Saturday, events such as the Rugby World Cup and a high profile boxing match meant large crowds were to expected in the city centre and in the vicinity of the event. We therefore needed to plan in tandem with the local authorities to mitigate any crowd safety issues.
