Boiler Room at Burgess Park – May 2023

Background

Boiler Room: London was a sold out, critically acclaimed event, produced by The Fair on behalf of this globally iconic music broadcaster and promoter. The capacity of the event, which took place in Burgess Park, was 8,000 attendees in its first year.

The Fair was amongst the first festival production companies to operate in Burgess Park, which is relatively new territory for large-scale dance music events and festival production of this kind. The park is an emotive landmark and important thoroughfare for South London residents.

Challenge

  • The promoter is a globally recognised brand with specific operating requirements, including its core function as a broadcast platform. All of the performances throughout the festival were streamed live. Both of the stages at the event were “in the round”, including the main stage, and festival attendees were given the unique opportunity to surround the performers and dance on stage.
  • Boiler Room: London was an extremely popular show with huge interest generated on social media and online, with a young, and local audience which, alongside its benefits, presented queue flow and crowd management circumstances that needed to be managed carefully.
  • Burgess Park is a complex and historic site, built on industrial land reclaimed from the rubble after extensive bombing during The Blitz. It is surrounded on all sides by neighbourhoods including high rise estates which overlook the park, and contains many precious trees and wildlife.
