During the Christmas period The Fair cover Health & Safety for many events, including several for our sister company We Are Placemaking. This year, due to the unfortunate event in Strasbourg, H&S and Security management have been high priority for Christmas events.
Below see some highlights from our Christmas season.
Mount Street Christmas Lights Switch On
Intro: The Fair covered H&S for the Mount Street Christmas lights switch on in 2017 and 2018 on behalf of Grosvenor and Wetherell. The switch on moment turns on the lights which run down Mount Street, as well as the Connaught hotel’s Christmas tree.
Challenge: The site is challenging as there are no road closures in place for this event. The tree and the stage are on opposite sides of the road, where there is live two way traffic, and there is little space for attendees to congregate on either side. With the build up from 6pm and switch on at 6:30pm, it is a short duration and high intensity event. After covering the event in 2017, the team constructed a crowd management plan and brought in security to manage the event for 2018.
Delivery: H&S Management, Supplier Audit, Security and Traffic Management
Results: Well attended and safe event
Liverpool One Polaris Installation
Intro: Liverpool One were looking for an alternative light installation to activate Chavasse Park during the Christmas period – a green space within the central dining district of the shopping centre. We Are Placemaking, The Fair’s sister company, collaborated with Terraform to produce Polaris, a bespoke light installation curated from LED IBCs.
Challenge: There were a number of challenges involved in the construction of this installation. The location was based on the Albert Dock at an elevation of approx. 25m and the wind speed at times during the activation has exceeded 44mph. Wind speed needed to be monitored onsite with an anenometer and the structure itself needed to be adequately ballasted with concrete and water to counteract the wind force. In addition the build time was sensitive and so planning and timings were paramount.
Delivery: H&S Management through build and live, Supplier Audit, Production and Security Management
Results: Installation delivered on time and without incident, great feedback from local community
Jermyn Street Road Closure
Intro: Crown Estate and ANM Communications were to hold an event surrounding the Regent Street Christmas Light Switch on in Jermyn Street. The Fair covered H&S for the road closure organised by our sister company We Are Placemaking.
Challenge: The event site is in close proximity to Regent Street and therefore attracts a lot of pedestrian traffic which made installing the road closure and building the event a challenging process. In addition, there was a large exodus from a church service which clashed with the start of the road closure.
Delivery: H&S management, Security Management, Supplier Audit
Results: Successful and safe road closure and event
